Imagine you are drinking coffee or a chai tea and your mouth is warm from the heat of your beverage. You then take the smallest bite of an Orange Napolitain and suddenly your mouth is filled with the exotic flavor of melting dark chocolate busting with the flavor of orange. It is similar to the flavor of a candied orange peel so you have the flavor of orange zest mysteriously escaping from what could only be described as the silkiest dark chocolate in the world.



Definitely an Indulgence that reveals culinary genius! Each piece is individually wrapped in a beautiful orange wrapping displaying the shield of the Greek warrior Leonidas, King of Sparta. The chocolates are actually named after the founder Leonidas Kestekidis who immigrated to the United States and then moved to Belgium.



I first tasted Leonidas chocolates while in Brussels, Belgium. Since then, I have wondered about where I could purchase these delicious chocolates without having to fly to Belgium. I must say that once you taste a Leonidas praline filled chocolate, you will remember the taste for life! Since reviewing at Amazon, I discovered chocolates in gold boxes that resembled the boxes I remembered from Belgium. Enlightenment!



Leonidas now has over 1700 stores and sales locations worldwide and they offer over 80 varieties of fresh chocolates. The chocolates are air freighted weekly from Brussels so you will always find the quality to be superior. My chocolates arrived fast and were as fresh as if I had purchased them in Belgium. They were carefully packaged in the famous gold boxes with signature wrapping and a ribbon. The boxes were then placed in protective Styrofoam containers to protect the chocolates during shipping. The expedited shipping is recommended from May to early September.



If you wish to try all the Napolitains, I'd suggest the 1 pound sampler Ballotin with six varieties. You may also want to look for the new Palet d'Or. A deeply delicious and strong bitter chocolate filled with ganache. The center is made with butter, cream and chocolate and the outer coating is a masterpiece with gold decorations. If you prefer milk chocolates, look for the Milk Chocolate Assortment. They also have a dark, white and milk chocolate assortment. The chocolates can also be ordered in smaller party favor boxes and they will definitely impress your guests.

This is excellent chocolate. Hachez is a quality brand. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I reserve that for the 88% Hachez in the red wrapper, and the 85% Valrhona. For those that had one bad experience with this chocolate (or any other that has otherwise gotten good reviews) give it a second try. You may have gotten a stale bar or perhaps a less than perfect batch. Fine chocolate will vary, although my experience is that Hachez is very consistent.



If you want more bite go to World Market and get their 99% or 100%. I wouldn't recommend them as anything more than taste dares, however. If you're looking for a better deal on chocolate bars like this I do suggest you look at World Market. That's where I've found most of the dark chocolate I have tried and their prices typically run from $2.50 to $4.00 on most bars. Unfortunately the Hachez has been out of stock at my local store for several months, as has the Valrhona.



I must say the "no flavor" review is fairly absurd. While I've found many dark chocolate bars that were sub standard, I have never found any dark chocolate that had "no flavor".

This used to be my favorite dark chocolate until I discovered the 88% dark Hachez bars. One reviewer thought it was crumbly but my guess is that they had something cold in their mouth before eating it - you don't want to do that with dark chocolate or it doesn't melt on the tongue very well. This company makes some very smooth but intense chocolate for those who don't like the bitterness or sourness of very dark chocolate. I just came home from Germany and stocked up on Hachez at the duty free shop. I wish I'd bought more. This stuff is fantastic!

As is, Cocoa D'Arriba consists of the best and natural ingredients only; no emulsifier, no artificial Vanillin. Concerning the high quality ingredients and business ethics, these are big pluses. However, as most reviewers have complained, there is barely any taste, let alone the fact that it is not rich or fulfilling for that matter. This is most likely due to the fact that Cocoa D'Arriba is ultra-refined (14 microns) to generate a smooth and mellow taste. That is, the chocolate is over-refined, thus very little has remained from the original rich chocolate taste. You can run into the same problem in olive oil industry, where sometimes the oil is ultra-refined during pressing, which brings about the lack of actual olive taste and thus character. Too sad.



I recommend Hachez Orange Bar 77% Cocoa instead, which is certainly a more successful product in the series. The natural orange-oil in it brings about a very mellow yet significant and pleasing orange flavor to this dark chocolate bar. It definitely adds much flavor and gives some character to this over-refined chocolate bar. It has more taste and after taste.

I thought the price was good until I saw how much it was to ship the item. I tried to cancel the order twice (maybe I was too late?) but the seller NEVER responded at all. The product was as disappointing as the seller. Bag is about 1/2 full, can't really taste the fruit, although chocolate tasted good. This was not worth the time or money.

These looked great online, but I was disappointed that I couldn't find a product label ... even when I found "Emily's" website. Since they were listed as "gourmet," I was hoping for premium ingredients. While not as bad as some, they do include natural flavors and corn syrup, for instance.



Having said that, the Dark Chocolate Strawberries TASTE very good, and the taste alone might warrant 5 stars (considering that they're packaged fruit).

I bought a bag of these and the chocolate covered blueberries and both are great. The stawberries are about the size of a marble and covered in thick dark chocolate. You can still taste the berry though. Its the perfect mix of sweet and dark chocolate. The chocolate and berries contain no artificial colors or flavors. The taste is addictive and for the price you cant go wrong. If I knew they were this good I wouldve got 2 bags. Enjoy.
